Establishment
The foundation Ananse was established in 1998 by two Dutch medical specialists. Their aim, to better the urological care with high quality and low costs in the missionary hospitals in Africa. Twenty years ago the two young graduated specialists worked as volunteers as tropical doctors. Since then the healthcare in development countries has had their interest. If you think that, for example in, Ghana West Africa there is one Urologist for two million people, were as in the Dutch situation 1:50,000. So as you can imagine their help was needed.
When in 1998 a mission sister asked for their help in setting up an Urological care in there hospital, they acted. The Team
The volunteers consists of medical specialists, mainly urologists, who travel frequently to Africa to give their time and healthcare free of charge. If necessary other specialists are invited to help out: Pediatric Urologists, General Surgeons, Anesthetists and Gynecologists. Where
Ananse has as aim the improvement of the urological health care in the whole of Africa. For the time being Ananse is active in Ghana (West Africa) and Tanzania (East Africa). Different mission hospitals are being visited on a regular basis. Patients with urological problems from a wide area are traveling to the clinic to receive the necessary medical help they require.
